Coordination of European Research on Industrial Safety towards Smart and Sustainable Growth

Sensor development...

Sensor development, intelligent data logging, mining and analysis, model updating and statistical methods to predict the performance of aging infrastructures

  • The project investigates how sensor data, intelligent data logging and data mining techniques can be combined to predict the aging state, remaining useful life and safety performance of infrastructures. It examines how prognostics and health management methods can be integrated with probabilistic safety assessment to dynamically update failure probabilities and risk rankings. Further research questions concern how data fusion, trend analysis and model updating can improve prediction accuracy, and how risk-informed predictive maintenance strategies can be derived from continuously updated safety information.

  • The project will deliver a predictive risk assessment and management framework integrating sensor monitoring, data analytics, prognostics and probabilistic safety assessment. Expected outputs include advanced sensor-based monitoring concepts, data acquisition and fusion methods, validated prognostics models, and methodologies for dynamic risk prioritisation and predictive maintenance. The project will also provide validated case studies demonstrating applicability to transport and industrial infrastructures, along with guidance supporting industrial uptake.

  • The project is implemented through seven work packages covering sensor technology development, data acquisition and management, prognostics and health management modelling, safety and remaining service life assessment, risk prioritisation and predictive maintenance, model updating and performance analysis, and validation through representative infrastructure and industrial case studies.
